Health and Safety Measures

Smith’s Kauai Health and Safety Measures

Kauai is a unique rural community with limited resources to deal with a large outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. Stricter testing and quarantine rules were put in place to keep the island community safe and healthy as can be seen by the low numbers of infection on Kauai. On April 5, 2021, the island of Kauai will join the rest of the State of Hawaii in the existing Safe Travels program and approach the arrival of travelers to the island with caution.
Our family’s river tour to the Fern Grotto and the Garden Luau have implemented the following protocols in compliance with Hawaii State and local mandates for the safety and health of our guests and our family of employees.

  • Our river boats and the dinner and show locations at the luau are covered and are open on the sides providing open air to flow through the venues. Still, guests should maintain proper distance from other guests and our staff while in attendance.
  • Guests and staff are required to wear face coverings (neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas and face shields are not compliant in Hawaii) at all times while on tour or at the luau, including those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine. Masks may be temporarily removed while actively eating or drinking, but you must be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing.
  • Seating capacity for the river tours and the luau has been drastically decreased in compliance with local mandates to achieve appropriate distancing from other parties.
  • Expanded and enhanced cleaning and sanitation protocols have been put in place and additional hand sanitizer stations are placed in high traffic areas.
  • All staff members are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which include face coverings in accordance with local authorities.

Our family appreciate all travelers and residents who travel and live responsibly and follow all local guidelines. Respect (Ho’ihi) and Care (Malama) is everyone’s Responsibility (Kuleana). Please keep our island community and those who visit, safe and healthy.
